The bathroom is your friend!

One of the common mistakes so many of us make is not taking a break when we need to. We try to “power through” Which usually only makes things worse. Especially in high stakes situations, continuing an encounter without your composure can lead to mistakes, missteps and mischief. This is why I tell my clients: “When you are losing or have lost your composure GO TO THE BATHROOM” As an in-house lawyer, clients could approach me just about anywhere. In the hallway. The elevator. The lunch line. Over time I realized that the bathroom stall was the ONLY place I could go where no one could engage me in conversation – most of the time at least lol. The toilet was the place where I could take time. To think By myself. No one was outside tapping their foot, eying their watch and waiting for me to emerge. I could cry or shake my fist at heaven At my colleagues Or the powers that be I could breathe. Ground. And center. Re-establish my confidence. Re-connect with my inner strength. Re-build my internal boundaries. I could even develop a plan if needed. That’s why I say that sitting on the toilet is a blessing. So the next time you feel yourself losing it – no pun intended 😉 Take a break. Go to the bathroom…it will serve you well in so many ways!   With...

My Summer Romance

Trust Your Heart It Will Never Steer You Wrong   I hope this finds you enjoying the fullness of summer, the lazy days filled with endless sunshine, family fun and the more relaxed pace that seems to take over even the busiest of lives at this time of year. I’ve been starting and ending my days in the beautiful clear blue water of my pool. I am blessed to be able to walk out my bedroom door and into the pool in the bathing suit god gave me lol. I love it. I’m a water bug at heart. And this summer my daily swims have taken on new meaning. It’s almost like wiping the slate clean twice a day. I dive in and give all my attention to the feeling of gliding easily and effortlessly through the water. I emerge feeling refreshed and renewed.  This practice of centering myself twice a day is helping me avoid getting pulled totally off kilter by everything that’s happening in the world right now. The crazier things get, the more I need the water. It’s become as effective as meditating. How are you staying present in your life these days? It’s not always easy to do, is it? Even without the heartache and trauma of our world right now, it takes constant practice to remain present to your own experience. And that’s what you need to do, if you’re going to create the life that calls to you from the depths of your own heart. I get it that staying present to your own experience can often be painful or even scary. This is especially true when you’re not living in alignment...

LOTUS Wisdom, A Path to the Present.

Dear One, I am so honored that you chose to explore how to UNLOCK THE WISDOM OF YOUR HEART using the LOTUS™ Wisdom practice. I hope that this powerful and simple practice serves you well. Don’t forget that you can download your very own LOTUS Wisdom meditation HERE and let me guide you through the process. This can be particularly helpful if you are new to this kind of practice. Have you tried LOTUS Wisdom yet? If not, perhaps today is the day you give this gift to yourself. If so, what are you noticing? I would love to hear how it’s going? Please share your experience below. Before you keep reading, pause for a minute and bring yourself into this moment. Let the rest of life go for a few breaths. Be. Here. Now. Inhale. Exhale. Feel yourself IN THIS MOMENT. Ahhhhh. Welcome home. Like conscious breathing, LOTUS Wisdom is a kind of mindfulness practice. “What is mindfulness?” you ask? Well, there are probably as many definitions of mindfulness as there are people who practice it. For some, mindfulness is a meditation practice they do on a cushion with their legs crossed, often at the crack of dawn. (I’ve never been very good at doing anything at the crack of dawn lol) For me, mindfulness is a way of life, something I PRACTICE all day, every day. (NOTE that I said “practice.” That means sometimes I’m successful, others time, not so much). Think of it this way… We can only breathe for the moment we are in. In the same way, we can only be fully present in the moment...

Message from Hawaii….

Aloha beautiful beings of light. I am sitting poolside in a beautiful mountain home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the big island of Hawaii. Rain patters on the pool. A warm breeze blows gently through my hair. A multitude of birds are singing their unique songs and enjoying a morning bird bath. (I wonder if birds call what I did earlier this morning a human bath?! lol). I am overflowing with gratitude for everything that has happened these last many years that have brought me to this place. Hard to believe that I am working. Yes, you read that right. I am working. “How could that be?” you say. Well, that’s why I am feeling so blessed. For years I spent my life striving and living on the endless wheel of other people’s needs and expectations. I was successful.  I made good money. I owned my own home. Provided for my family. But work was my “finance committee.” Not my “life committee.” Work fed my life. It didn’t feed me. My experience is not unusual. When I suffered a head injury, I could have given up and never worked again. But that isn’t who I am. I didn’t want to walk away from life. Wasn’t ready to leave un-given all the gifts I’ve received throughout my life. I had medicine to give and wanted to give it. (You do, too. We all do.) So I started consciously listening to what my heart wanted. And paid careful attention to the answers. I practiced living in alignment with my own intuition. Consistently. About “big things” and “small things.’ The more I...

Standing in the Circle of Love

Are you scared of love? I am. I’m scared of being vulnerable, scared to ask for what I need (much less what I want), scared of being rejected or found unworthy. I suspect that most of us feel this way more often than we admit. I also suspect that most of us have learned to be scared and love anyway.   Being scared and doing it anyway is the definition of courage. When we are sick or hurt or struggling, it can be especially hard to RECEIVE all the love that comes our way even though it’s what we need the most. So I wrote a song about standing in the center of the circle of love for a dear friend who had just been diagnosed with non-smoker’s lung cancer and was blown away by all the love and support coming her way. I wanted to remind her that she was doing a remarkable job receiving and to encourage her to keep going. Little did I know that it would do the same for me. Last Tuesday I was in another car accident. I’m ok, tho pretty battered and bruised, mostly from the airbag, which did its job really well – that’s the good news and the bad news. Being on the receiving end of an airbag when it deploys is like being on the wrong end of a battering ram. Way better than the alternative though, that’s for sure! So I’ve had lots of opportunities in the last week to stand in the center of my own love circle and exercise my own courage muscles. I’ve received incredible...
